Before you pay for a school or college laptop repair, take these steps to protect schoolwork and speed up the visit.
Start with your files
If the device still works, back up school assignments and other irreplaceable files before testing or repair. For a machine that has been dropped, exposed to liquid, or has a suspected failing drive, ask a technician before powering it on again.
Write down what happened
Note error messages, whether a charger works, what happened just before the issue started, and whether the problem is intermittent. A brief timeline can make diagnosis faster.
Check ownership and warranty
School-issued laptops may require approval from the school’s IT department. For personally owned equipment, check remaining manufacturer or accidental-damage coverage before authorizing paid work.
Compare the estimate with replacement
Consider the computer’s age, condition, performance and the likely useful life after repair. Ask for a clear diagnostic assessment before deciding whether a repair makes financial sense.
